CIPLIT® Hosts 7th Annual IP Scholars Conference
The Center for Intellectual Property Law & Information Technology (CIPLIT) at DePaul University College of Law hosted the 7th Annual Intellectual Property Scholars Conference on Aug. 9-10, 2007.
The IP Scholars Conference annually brings together intellectual property scholars to present their works-in-progress in order to benefit from the critique of colleagues. The IPSC format is designed to facilitate free-ranging discussion and to help people hone their ideas. Papers presented are works in progress that can benefit from substantial commentary and revision. This year more than 100 professors from the United States and abroad participated in the conference.
The conference was co-sponsored by CIPLIT; the Berkeley Center for Law and Technology, Boalt Hall School of Law; the Intellectual Property Law Program, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University; and the Stanford Program in Law, Science and Technology, Stanford Law School.
Career Services Center Seeks Mock Interview Volunteers
DePaul College of Law alumni are greatly needed to conduct mock interviews with students preparing for their interviews and the Fall Employer Recruitment Program. By participating in the Mock Interview Program, you can help current students hone their interviewing skills and become even stronger job candidates. This is an easy but invaluable way to show your support for the College of Law!
Interviews will take place at the time(s) of your choosing Monday, Aug. 27 through Friday, Aug. 31 and can be conducted at your office for your convenience. Each mock interview should last 30 minutes, with 20 minutes for interviewing and 10 minutes of interviewer feedback to assist the student in enhancing his or her skills. We would be happy to provide you with a list of common interview questions to aid you in conducting the mock interview.
If you would like to volunteer to conduct one or more mock interviews, please e-mail the Assistant Director of Career Services, Allison Lynn Ryan alryan@depaul.edu, with specific timeframes within the week of Aug. 27-31 that you will be available to interview. Students will sign up for specific interview slots and they will come to your office ready to interview. Please call (312) 362-8377 with any questions about this volunteer opportunity.

DePaul to Host Roundtable Discussion on Issue of Access to Essential Medicines Around the World
In September, four of the College of Law's Institutes and Centers (the Health Law Institute, the Center for Intellectual Property Law & Information Technology (CIPLIT), the Center for Public Interest Law and the International Human Rights Law Institute) will host a roundtable discussion co-sponsored by Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) focusing on the issue of access to essential medicines in the developing world.
The timing of this event is particularly apt because of the recent decision by Thailand to issue compulsory licenses for the AIDS drugs efavirenz and lopinavir/ritonavir. In reaction to the Thai health authorities' decision, Abbott, the Chicago-based multinational pharmaceutical company, has decided to withdraw all applications to register drugs in Thailand, including a crucially important HIV/Aids drug (heat-stable lopinavir/ritonavir, marketed as Kaletra), and to not bring to market any new medicines in the country.
Panelists will include Professor Brook Baker from Northeastern University School of Law, Dr. Buddhima Lokuge from Doctors without Borders, Dr. Sigrid Fry-Revere, director of Bioethics Studies at Cato Institute, and Ronald Cass of Cass and Associates. Professor Matthew Sag of DePaul University College of Law will moderate the panel.
The discussion will take place on Sept. 20, 2007, 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. in Room 8005 of the DePaul Center, 1 East Jackson Blvd, Chicago, Ill. A reception will follow the discussion.
