Specializations & Certificates

Dedicated professors guide students through a comprehensive program that prepares them for the challenges lawyers face every day. Additionally, a variety of joint degrees, graduate programs, and certificate options enhance the core JD curriculum and provide opportunities for work in specific areas of the law.

While theoretical classroom instruction is an essential part of law school, DePaul also has pioneered many creative approaches to teaching the professional skills required of lawyers in practice: trial advocacy, appellate technique, negotiation, mediation, and other forms of dispute resolution. DePaul law students select from actual practice settings, both inside and outside of the law school, and they earn academic credit for representing clients in one of our six legal clinics or as part of the Field Placement Program. All legal work is performed with the guidance of faculty members and supervising attorneys and judges. This combination of theoretical training and real legal practice gives students valuable experience and helps them better understand the situations that lawyers routinely confront in their careers.
