Public Service Law
What is Public Service Law?
It is public service oriented work on behalf of individuals and causes not served by the for-profit bar. It includes work with government agencies (federal, state and local) as well as with non-profit organizations.
It cuts across political ideologies.
It is based on individual or group concepts of justice, equality and the advancing of the common good.
The role of public service law is to ensure what the U.S. Constitution guarantees all of us: Equal protection under the law, and therefore equal access to the legal system.
Specifically public service law is aimed at promoting:
- Representation of the underrepresented
- Equal access to the legal system
- Raising of society's consciousness about social and political issues affecting us all
- Bringing about social change
Chicago is a vibrant center for the practice of public service law and provides many opportunities to work for social justice - from legal services to private law firms.
