Administration
The Institute is a part of DePaul University’s College of Law. Professor M. Cherif Bassiouni has served as IHRLI’s president since the founding of the Institute in 1990. The president is appointed by the Dean of the College of Law. The work of the Institute is supported by an executive director and staff funded by the University. The executive director is appointed by the Dean on the recommendation of the president and after consultation with the Faculty Advisory Committee. Other Institute staff are appointed by the Institute’s president on the recommendation of the executive director.
The Faculty Advisory Committee, appointed by the Dean, oversees the work of the Institute and establishes policy for its programs and activities. As with other committees of the College of Law, the chair is appointed by the Dean. IHRLI also benefits from the advice and guidance of an External Advisory Board, composed of leaders from the public and private sectors who lend their expertise and advice to the Institute. Members of the External Advisory Board serve two-year terms and are nominated by the president of the Institute after consultation with the Faculty Committee.
