Cherie Travis, J.D.
Associate Director, Center for Animal Law
Cherie Travis has an extensive background in animal welfare and animal law. She teaches Animal Law at both DePaul and Northwestern law schools, chairs the Chicago Bar Association’s Animal Law Committee, is president and co-founder of a no-kill, all-volunteer humane society, and an approved humane investigator with the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

In addition, she is Co-Vice Chair of Sheriff Tom Dart's Cook County Partners Against Animal Cruelty Task Force, and Co-Chair of Alderman Smith's Elephant Protection Ordinance Task Force, and serves on Alderman Schulter's Task Force on Companion Animal Welfare and Public Safety.

She has received awards for her initiatives for animals from the Citizen Advocacy Center and Alley Cat Allies. Today's Chicago Woman magazine named her one of "100 Women Making a Difference" in 2001. She has spoken on animal law issues to the Chicago Bar Association, John Marshall Law School, the Illinois Animal Control Officers Association and the Western Cook County Mayors Conference.
