Dr. Silke von Lewinski

Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law (Munich, Germany)

Dr. von Lewinski heads the department specializing in international and European copyright law at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property Competition and Tax Law in Munich, Germany. She has consulted the European Commission on a number of initiatives, including the EC Rental Rights Directive at the WIPO Diplomatic Conference in 1996 as a member of the delegation of European Communities. At the WIPO Diplomatic Conference on Audiovisual Performances in 2000, she served as a delegate for Germany. She also has been the chief legal expert consulting the governments of Eastern and Central European, Asian and former Soviet Union countries on their copyright legislation in the framework of the EC technical assistance programs. Von Lewinski has authored numerous publications and lectures that focus on topics related to copyright law, primarily international and European copyright law and new technologies. She has been a visiting professor and educator at schools in Germany, Switzerland, France, the United States, Canada and Australia. She also is a board and committee member of several institutions, and is an editorial board member of several law journals, including the Journal of the Copyright Society of the USA.
