Tanzania Service Learning Trip

Tanzania KidsStudents travel to Tanzania to study the child welfare system and to provide services to homeless children and the agencies that serve them. The trip last year was extraordinarily successful so the Center intends to make it a permanent part of the Family Law Program at DePaul.

This service learning opportunity teaches students the basic Tanzanian law on child welfare; allows them to observe how international rules of law are applied; and helps them understand the difficulties faced in impoverished areas with large numbers of homeless children. Students gain actual experience on-site working with national and international law. It also provides a venue for students to apply their skills to help struggling agencies that serve homeless children. This service-learning project addresses the need for students to analyze their role, not only in domestic law, but as members of the global community.

The trip concludes with a safari.
