Legal Writing

Students in the public interest Legal Analysis, Research, & Communication (LARC) sections, are part of a cutting-edge program that introduces them to public interest subjects in the first year that are generally reserved for upper-level study. While most first-year law students are limited to studying the traditional first-year curriculum, students in the public interest sections learn to research and write using various topics that arise in a public interest law setting. Public interest LARC assignments teach students the core skills but focus on such diverse subjects as family law, civil rights law, school law, housing law and criminal law. These specialized sections are taught by former public interest practitioners who can convey what legal practice is like "in the trenches" of public interest work. These specialized sections, offered in both the day and evening, also give students an opportunity to work and study with likeminded classmates who wish to pursue careers that will improve access to justice for all.
