Journal for Social Justice Speaker Series
Presentation by University of Illinois at Chicago Professor, Bill Ayers

On Tuesday, April 21, 2009, Bill Ayers, Professor of Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Illinois at Chicago, opened the Journal for Social Justice’s first ever Lunchtime Speaker Series, entitled Getting Schooled in Chicago. Professor Ayers presented on the topic of “Democracy in Education.” The event was co-sponsored by DePaul University College of Law Center for Public Interest Law, Journal for Social Justice, Latino Law Student Association, & the National Lawyers Guild. The Speaker Series was funded in part by the DePaul Vincentian Endowment Fund.

Presentation by MALDEF Regional Counsel, Ricardo Meza

On Wednesday, April 22, 2009, Ricardo Meza, Regional Counsel at the Mexican-American Legal Defense & Educational Fund, spoke on the second day of the Journal for Social Justice’s first ever Lunctime Speaker Series, entitled Getting Schooled in Chicago. Mr. Meza presented on the topic of Latino Segregation: “From Mendez v. Westminster to US v. Board of Education, Chicago of Chicago.” The event was co-sponsored by DePaul University College of Law Center for Public Interest Law, Journal for Social Justice, Latino Law Student Association, & the National Lawyers Guild.
