Family Law Center Funds 22 Students to do Public Service Work

The Schiller DuCanto and Fleck Family Law Center has funded 22 students to do public service work in family law areas through its new Family Law Fellows Awards Program and Summer Service Awards Program. Fellows and Summer Service Award recipients receive a financial award and the opportunity to hone their legal skills while helping vulnerable clients in need of legal services.

The Family Law Fellows Program began in academic year 2006-2007, and 58 students joined. This spring, seven of these students were awarded a paid placement at a public interest agency to work 10 hours per week for 14 weeks during spring semester. The Spring Fellows Service Award recipients were:

In addition, the Center has awarded 15 students with Summer Service Awards. They will work 40 hours per week for 10 weeks this summer. The Summer Service Award recipients are:

In academic year 2007-2008, the Center plans to fund 14-16 second- and third-year Family Law Fellows to work in public interest during the fall and spring semesters and 15 first-year Summer Service Awards to work in public interest next summer.
