College of Law named one of the best for Hispanics
DePaul University College of Law has been ranked among the nation's most diverse for Hispanic students in a recent study conducted by the California-based Hispanic Business Magazine. The "Best Schools for Hispanics" survey ranked the top 20 law schools in the country for Hispanics based on such factors as enrollment, reputation and retention rates. Results of the survey are featured in the September 2007 issue of Hispanic Business Magazine and on its Web site at www.hispanicbusiness.com/news.
"It is an honor for the College of Law to be recognized as one of the most diverse in the country for Hispanics," says Glen Weissenberger, dean of the College of Law. "This distinction is in keeping with the law school's mission, which follows the teachings of St. Vincent de Paul, who advocated for the acceptance of all people. We at the College of Law believe firmly that a diverse student body and faculty make for a more enriching law school experience."
With an estimated 107 Hispanic students among the 1,070 students enrolled in the College of Law during the 2006-2007 academic year, the law school placed 19th in the Hispanic Business Magazine study. Schools were ranked based on the responses to a questionnaire covering five categories-enrollment, faculty, student services, retention rates and reputation.
The College of Law also received the Law School of the Year Award from the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois (HLAI) in September 2007. The award recognizes DePaul's "excellence in Hispanic law student recruitment" for having the highest number of incoming Latino law students. This is the second consecutive year that DePaul has received the award.
