Technology/Intellectual Property Clinic

Fall or spring semester: 3 credits
The Intellectual Property/Information Technology Clinic (IP/IT Clinic) is one of the first law school clinical programs to provide transactional services exclusively in the areas of patent, trademark and copyright law to clients who cannot afford to pay private counsel for these services. The clinic is a natural extension of the College of Law's IP/IT program, and its mission is "Protecting the Creative Works of Creative MindsŪ." Clients, who are referred to the clinic by attorneys and by former clinic clients, include a wide range of entrepreneurs, musicians, artists, authors and inventors who need assistance in protecting their creations and businesses. You will conduct client interviews, research facts and law, and strategize how to achieve the clients' goals. You also counsel clients, draft communications to clients and to third parties, and draft all necessary documents. Full-time third-year and part-time fourth-year students with technical and nontechnical backgrounds are eligible to participate in the clinic.
