LLM Programs
The Law Graduate Programs at DePaul University College of Law offers four Master of Laws (LL.M.) programs: Health Law, International Law, Intellectual Property and Taxation. The advanced programs are for attorneys who wish to expand their legal training or broaden their proficiency in one of the three areas of study. The LL.M. program provides the optimal combination of theory and practice, cross-curricular offerings, and individualized course plans to enhance the educational experience.
Admission Criteria
- Applications should be submitted at least six weeks prior to the entering terms. Students may start in the fall, spring or summer semesters.
- Candidates for admission must hold a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- The Admission Committee takes into consideration an applicant's professional background and law school record.
- Foreign students for whom English is a second language are required to submit a TOEFL score. DePaul will consider applicants who receive a score 90 or higher on the new internet-Based Test (iBT) test -- 577 or higher on the traditional Paper-Based Test (PBT/ITP) or 233 on the Computer Based Test (CBT). TOEFL scores are good for only two years.
- Foreign applicants, upon completion of the LL.M. degree are not permitted to sit for the Illinois Bar Examination or to enter the Illinois Bar.
Program Information
- Attorneys may attend classes on a full or part-time basis.
- Health Law and Intellectual Property programs may be completed in one to four years.
- Taxation program may be completed in one to five years.
- LL.M. candidates must complete twenty-four semester hours of course work and earn a minimum grade point average of 2.5.
- Financial Aid may be available with a minimum registration of three credit hours per semester.
