Trial Advocacy Program

DePaul’s Trial Advocacy Program allows students to examine and practice fundamental trial techniques through simulated courtroom exercises, trial preparation, and simulated bench and jury trials. Basic trial advocacy coursework covers trial skills including case theory from opening to closing argument, witness preparation, direct and cross-examination, use of expert testimony and case management. During advanced coursework, students complete exercises in the mechanics of a trial, covering such complex trial problems as evidence retrieval in complex litigation, courtroom technology, jury selection and instruction, and arguing objections and motions during trial. Trial preparation is covered in depth through civil and criminal pre-trial courses.
