Moot Court Society
Teams

The Moot Court Society sponsors four different teams, each specializing in a different area of jurisprudence.

Appellate Team

The Appellate Team is the largest as measured by number of members. As such, members have the opportunity to argue on a variety of topics ranging from constitutional, juvenile, securities, copyright, products liability law, and many others. Try-outs are held in the fall, and we usually take on 6 to 10 new members each year. Members of the Appellate Team compete as pairs, traveling to cities throughout the country. Each pair is expected to write an appellate brief, conduct oral arguments, and aid other members of the team in preparing for their own competitions.

Trial Team

The Trial Team holds annual try-outs in the late fall. Members practice and travel together to compete at the national level. With an emphasis on courtroom tactics and presentation, a Trial Team experience can be both rewarding and strenuous.

Client Counseling & Negotiations

Both the Client Counseling and Negotiations Teams are part of the larger Alternative Dispute Resolution section of the Society. As the name suggestions, members will train for national competitions that specialize in skills invaluable to today's lawyer. As with all teams, the Client Counseling and Negotiations Teams help to round out the Society's goal of providing many opportunities to hone a law student's practical skills.
